Most people nowadays know what a podcast is, but just in case, here is a quick description: a podcast is a talk that is recorded and posted on the internet so that anyone can listen to it. Usually podcasts are part of a series released at regular intervals. The beauty of a podcast is that you can listen to it whenever it suits you.
You can listen to podcasts from your PC or, even more conveniently, from your phone; an easy way to do that is to download an app and then subscribe to your favourite podcasts. Don’t be put off by the word “subscribe”, almost all podcasts are free.
Once you download the podcast you can listen to it when you have time. Just plug in the headphones and listen while you sketch, paint, walk, drive, cook or even in the gym (if you like going to the gym!). There are 100s of apps available to listen to podcasts, but the one I use is Overcast (for iOS). It’s free, easy to use and it will automatically update the series you subscribe to.
You can find podcasts on thousands of topics, from sports to news to art and creativity, and these latter ones are the ones I’m going to concentrate on here.
So where do I find good podcasts to listen to? I hear you ask. If you downloaded the Overcast app (I’m not an affiliate by the way), you can search for a topic there, or if you have already a name in mind you can search for a specific name, such as for example Elizabeth Gilbert.
You can also run a search on Google. Search for “podcast for artists”, or “for pattern designers”, or “creative entrepreneurs”…. I’m going to add some links below to get you started, although if you already listen to podcasts you might have come across some of these already.
These are my favourite ones:
Magic Lessons by Elizabeth Gilbert
Amy Porterfield – Online marketing made easy
Creative Empire (in this episode they are joined by Bonnie Christine!)
I hope you will find these podcasts interesting!
Do you have a favourite podcast that is not in the list above? Do let me know in the comments :-) I do love to find always new and interesting things to listen to while I create my art…
Till next time
Create and be happy xox
